{Tutorial} DIY Party Decor

Hi everybody! I have a tutorial for you today and I really hope you like it! It's my first tutorial so bear with me and forgive my pictures as my lighting was a little bad. I was inspired by some paper bag flowers that I saw by Martha Stewart many moons ago. You can find the tutorial here and I will show you where I made mine a little different. I think these would be beautiful at a party and are also pretty for spring if you just wanna hang them up at home! To start with, you probably have everything you need to make these at home already!

Yes you are looking at paper bags and paper towels!! ( To be specific there are 6 paper bags and 3 paper towels.) You can't get much more budget friendly for a party than this!! ;o) You'll also need scissors, a hole puncher, string, double stick tape, and glue. You can follow the tutorial that is on Martha Stewart and below is how I changed mine.

The instructions on Martha Stewart have you put double stick tape on the bottom edge of the bags but I also added tape up the middle (not all the way to the top). The red lines on the bag are where I put my double stick tape.

Once you fan it out you will have this!

Now set that aside and grab your paper towels. Stack them one on top of the other and begin accordion folding until you get a strip. Then tie your string (or yarn or rubber band...whatever you have) around the middle.

Round the ends with your scissors.

And start fluffing out the layers just like you would when making tissue poms or tissue paper flowers.

Now scrunch the bottom together so the top gets bunched up to form your flower.

Tie some yarn around the bottom.

Then cut just below the yarn.

Now the bottom should look like this.

Grab your scissors and start cutting away a little of the middle section on your fan. It's not gonna look pretty or perfect but don't worry about it. It's gonna be covered up anyway. You just need a space to set your flower down in a little so it doesn't stick out so much. You should end up with something like the picture above.
Now put some glue on the bottom of your flower and stick it in the middle of your fan.

Yay! You're done!! If you want to hang them just punch a hole on the top and grab your Hubby's fishing line! :o)

Happy Decorating!
